Almost weekly, I get calls and texts from people who want to pursue a Performing Art but tell me they’re too afraid…
• Afraid of the unknown
• Afraid of not having experience
• Afraid of being too old
• Afraid of being laughed at
• Afraid of feeling weird
• Afraid of feeling out of place
• Afraid of feeling embarrassed
The list goes on and the reality is, I can’t tell you anything that’ll suddenly make all your fears go away.
That’s not how fear works. Fear is your body’s way of saying, “Hey, this is unfamiliar…I don’t know about this….are you sure?!” Fear serves a purpose; it’s (mostly) to keep us safe when an unknown is encountered.
I can’t tell you anything that’s going to make you “unafraid” suddenly.
What I can tell you is that almost everyone I know (myself included) is sometimes afraid of trying new things; that most of my students have those same nerves that you might have. What I can also tell you is that one of my very top goals is (and always has been) to create a learning environment that truly supports and includes every student: from all backgrounds, ages and walks of life – a place where each student feels welcome, at ease and excited to pursue their passion! I know how important it is because I was once in the same boat! I feel fortunate and blessed to have trained with coaches that supported me unconditionally.
Let’s Be Real: We spend so much time identifying ourselves with our past, maybe wishing we’d done things differently, made better decisions, tried more things, agonizing over about the past and at times, making excuses as to why we can’t or shouldn’t pursue what will make us happy.
YOU can become the person you WANT to be and DO what you WANT to do.
YOU have to DECIDE…
…that you want it.
…that you’re ready.
??? ???? ??????.
I’ve been saying this forever…and it’s more accurate to me now than ever because I see it ALL the time…Students waiting ‘til later in life to pursue something they’ve thought about for YEARS; sometimes decades. It’s always better late than never, of course, but I know each of them wishes they’d started the things that make them happy a lot sooner.
The bottom line: You’re the only person you have to live with for the rest of your life; might as well make that person happy (and proud)
Go for what makes you happy, friends!
